Each member is encouraged to actively participate in the committees and task forces of the Alexandria Chamber. Through active committee participation, members will become more knowledgeable about issues that directly impact their businesses. In addition, committee involvement also helps develop important business contacts.

Business & Community Development
Charlotte Hall, Potomac Riverboat Company, Vice Chairman

Business and Small Business Development Roundtable. Coordinates workshops on today's hottest business topics such as tax, management, employment and other legal issues as well as informational programs on impact of new technology on business operations. Also coordinates Small Business Awards program and assists the Small Business Development Center in strengthening the success rate of small firms in the City of Alexandria.

Valor Awards Task Force. Coordinates annual awards luncheon to recognize the heroes of the City's Police, Fire and Sheriff's departments.

Communications
Nancy Belmont, Belmont, Inc., Vice Chairman

Communications Committee. Examines the audiences, messages and vehicles of communication and assists the Director of Communications in developing a strategic communications plan.

Government Relations
Scott McGeary, Washington Gas, Vice Chairman

Legislative Committee. Reviews local, state and some federal legislative and regulatory issues, and recommends Chamber legislative policy and positions. Also coordinates annual State of the City Breakfast.

Permitting Task Force. Seeks to make the process of starting a business more "user friendly." (By invitation)

Transportation Committee. Focuses on reviewing various transportation alternatives and initiatives impacting the City and proposes action plan for addressing these issues. (By invitation)

Resource Development & Membership Services
Don Simpson,Jr., Simpson Development Company, Inc., Vice Chairman

Membership Outreach Team. Comprised of three subgroups that focus on welcoming new members, keeping in touch with existing members and year-round resource development.

Special Events
Shawn McLaughlin, McLaughlin Investments, LLC, Vice Chairman

Business Awards Task Force. Coordinates annual tribute to an outstanding leader and businesses of the Alexandria business community.

Golf Tournament Planning Committee. Will explore and coordinate a Fall 2007 golf outing for the Chamber.

Winter Gala Task Force. Coordinates annual black-tie dinner dance honoring new Chairman in January 2008.
